Chauffeur service in Blackpool — summary

First Class Chauffeurs drives Blackpool in North West England, and most of the work here is the ground half of a longer journey: the run out to Manchester before a flight, the car waiting when one lands, and days held by the hour between the Winter Gardens and the Pleasure Beach. Collections are made from private addresses, from Blackpool Victoria Hospital, and from the taxi rank side of Squires Gate rather than the drop-off lane. Manchester is an indicative 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes from Blackpool, about 62 miles by road, using M55. Vehicles run from the Mercedes-Benz E-Class up to the Rolls-Royce Phantom, whichever Blackpool address the car is going to. Every class is quoted individually; the written quotation for Blackpool confirms the final price, what it covers and any applicable tax.

Chauffeur service in Blackpool

The M55 runs from Preston to the edge of the resort and stops, which is where Yeadon Way takes over: a converted railway line that funnels traffic into the central car parks. It is the fastest way into town and the least obvious to a satnav. From the promenade to Manchester Airport is roughly sixty-two miles and seventy-five to a hundred and ten minutes.

Blackpool works to a calendar. Conference season fills the Winter Gardens, the Illuminations run from late summer into the autumn and turn the front into a slow-moving procession every evening, and summer weekends bring the whole of the north-west down the M55. Timing here is a matter of knowing which of those is happening.

03The area

Driving Blackpool: the practical version

Why the last two hundred yards in Blackpool take longer than the two miles before them.

A grid of Victorian streets behind a seven-mile promenade, with tramway running along the front and crossing the road at intervals. The tram has priority and the crossings are frequent, so the seafront is never the quick route even when it looks empty. Behind the front, the streets are narrow, one-way in places, and lined with hotels that have no forecourt at all. Out toward Marton and Stanley Park it opens up, and the airport at Squires Gate sits at the southern end of the built-up area.

04Demand

The bookings Blackpool actually makes

Business, family and the occasional long night out of Blackpool.

Conference weeks at the Winter Gardens generate a great deal of ground work, with delegates arriving through Manchester and needing the last hour covered. Blackpool Victoria is a large hospital with a regional cardiac centre. The theatres and the tower ballroom bring evening audiences. There is also a steady flow of holiday airport transfers, group bookings for celebrations, and offshore and general aviation movements from Squires Gate that need a car at an odd hour.

05Road time

What M55 does, and when it does it

How we set the collection time in Blackpool, and why it is earlier than you expect.

The M55 is quick and the trouble starts at its end. In Illuminations season the promenade from Starr Gate to Bispham is slow every evening and the side streets fill with parked cars. Summer Saturdays put queues on the M55 westbound from mid-morning. For a morning flight we come off the motorway and use Yeadon Way rather than the front, and we leave for Manchester at least two and a half hours before departure.

06The kerb

Where a long car can stand near the Winter Gardens

Where the car stands in Blackpool, how long it can stand there, and what happens if it cannot.

Promenade hotels have no forecourts, so the car waits on a side street and comes forward, or uses one of the marked bays where they exist. Blackpool North station has a set-down and is close to the centre. The Winter Gardens has entrances on several streets and the right one depends on which hall you are in. On the front, stopping across the tram tracks is not an option at any time, and the driver will not do it.

Collection notes for Blackpool

  • 01Yeadon Way off the M55 is the fastest way into the central hotels and car parks, and the driver will use it rather than the front.
  • 02Promenade hotels have no forecourt. The car waits on a side street and comes forward when you are at the door.
  • 03In Illuminations season we allow extra time for anything crossing the seafront in the evening, or route inland entirely.
  • 04The Winter Gardens has several entrances. Tell us which hall and the driver will be at the right one.

  • 01

    The Manchester handover

We watch the flight from the tail number, so the chauffeur is standing in Manchester arrivals when you clear customs rather than circling on the way in from Blackpool. Waiting time from touchdown is built into the Blackpool transfer.

  • 02

Skis, clubs and flight cases from Blackpool

The first question on any Blackpool booking is how many cases, because that decides the vehicle. Everything else about a Blackpool journey is easier to change afterwards than the size of the boot.

  • 03

Knows which end of M55 to avoid

The chauffeur driving you has made the Blackpool to Manchester run before and knows which end of M55 is worth avoiding at eight in the morning. That is a practical Blackpool skill, not a sales line.

  • 04

    What the Blackpool price includes

Ask for a figure and you get a figure, usually within the hour, for the journey you described from Blackpool rather than a range with a caveat hanging off it.

  • 05

Squires Gate arrivals tracked as well

A delay at Manchester is our problem to solve. We move the chauffeur's start time in Blackpool, hold the car, and the price on your written quotation does not move because the airline's did.

  • 06

    Waiting at Manchester from touchdown

Stops along M55 are built into the quotation. A pharmacy, a school gate in Blackpool or twenty minutes at Blackpool Victoria Hospital all go into the plan before the car sets off.

The airports Blackpool uses

A five o'clock run from Blackpool and a five o'clock return are different journeys over the same 62 miles. The table gives the middle of that range for Blackpool. Your confirmation gives the collection time we would actually use in Blackpool, which is usually the earlier one.

If your address sits nearer Preston than the middle of Blackpool, the drive is a different length. We say so and quote it, rather than using the middle of Blackpool and hoping the difference is small.

Early departures are the ordinary case in Blackpool. A 4am pick-up from Blackpool is booked the same way as a midday one, and the empty road that early is the closest thing to a guaranteed drive time we ever get.

We treat the arrival as the harder half of a Blackpool job. Anyone can drive from Blackpool to Manchester; being in the right hall at the right minute after a delayed flight is the part that takes attention.

A stop on the way in is easy to arrange: someone dropped in Preston, a detour past Blackpool Victoria Hospital, or a supermarket before you reach an empty fridge. Put it on the Blackpool booking and it appears in the price.

Your confirmation names the chauffeur, the vehicle and the registration, and the car is on the Blackpool street early. If the only legal space is round the corner from the Winter Gardens, that is where it will be, and you will know before you put your coat on.

The handover in Blackpool takes about forty seconds and then the car is gone. Where the run continues from Blackpool to Manchester, the chauffeur will tell you the indicative arrival once and then leave you alone with it.

  • The stopping point on M55 agreed before the morning rather than during it

The car for a whole day in Blackpool

The honest starting point is that every class leaves Blackpool and reaches Manchester in the same 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes. Choosing between them for a Blackpool booking is a question about the boot and the back seat rather than about the engine.

Where one car does a whole day across Blackpool, comfort compounds. Six hours in a First Saloon across Blackpool is a materially different day from six hours in something smaller, and the hourly rates reflect that.

Booking a Blackpool chauffeur by the hour

Booking a Blackpool chauffeur by the hour

Some Blackpool days do not fit a transfer. Three appointments between the Winter Gardens and the Pleasure Beach, a lunch that overruns, a change of plan at four: booking the car by the hour costs less thought than booking four separate journeys and hoping they line up.

The chauffeur will ask for a mobile number and then use it about once per stop, which is the right amount of communication for a day spent moving around Blackpool.

A collection at Squires Gate has a small choreography to it: the right entrance, the right side of the barrier, and a chauffeur standing on the concourse rather than sending a map pin and hoping.

Pick-ups at Squires Gate are quoted like any other journey, with the train number on the booking so the chauffeur can watch it. If you miss the train and take the next one into Squires Gate, tell us and the car simply waits.

Quoting a journey out of Blackpool

LF-07Quoting a journey out of Blackpool

Quoting a journey out of Blackpool

A quotation needs four things: when, from where in Blackpool, to where, and how many of you. Everything else about a Blackpool booking is refinement. We come back with the price, the vehicle class and the Blackpool collection time we would recommend.

There is no running total held against a card for Blackpool work. The figure for a Blackpool journey is agreed first and settled afterwards, on the terms the quotation already set out.

17Answers

Blackpool chauffeur questions

The questions M55 and Manchester between them tend to raise.

How long is Blackpool to Manchester Airport?

Sixty-two miles and between seventy-five minutes and nearly two hours, depending on the M55, the M6 and the ring road. It is a genuinely long run and we quote it honestly, which usually means leaving two and a half to three hours before departure.

What is Yeadon Way and why do you use it?

It is a road built on a former railway line that runs from the end of the M55 into the central car parks, and it bypasses the ordinary street network entirely. For a hotel in the middle of the resort it is the quickest approach, particularly in the evening.

Do the Illuminations affect journey times?

Considerably. From late summer the promenade becomes a slow procession every evening and the side streets fill with parked cars. For a departure during that season we route inland or leave early, and we tell you which at the point of booking.

Can you collect for a conference at the Winter Gardens?

Yes, and it is regular work. The building has entrances on several streets and delegates come out of different ones depending on the hall, so we agree the door in advance. On a busy conference day the driver holds nearby rather than circling the block.
