Three terminals, one transformation programme, and a road layout that assumes you already know which building you want. Manchester rewards a chauffeur who checks before setting off.
First Class Chauffeurs provides chauffeur transfers at Manchester Airport at Ringway, about ten miles south of Manchester city centre. The airport has Terminals 1, 2 and 3; Terminal 1 is being wound down as its airlines transfer into the enlarged Terminal 2 under the airport transformation programme, so the operating terminal is confirmed from the live arrivals feed on the day rather than from an older itinerary. Arriving passengers are met inside the arrivals hall of the correct terminal with a name board, the inbound flight is tracked so a delay moves the collection rather than losing it, and waiting time is included in the quoted arrivals fare. The airport is reached from junction 5 of the M56 and the drive into Manchester city centre indicatively takes twenty-five to forty-five minutes, with Cheshire, Merseyside and the Peak District all within a comfortable run. Fixed fares are published on your quotation, and the written quotation confirms the final price, what it includes and any applicable tax.

01/Overview
Arriving at Manchester
Manchester is the busiest airport outside London and the one we send most cars to north of Birmingham. It has three terminals, and unusually among British airports the picture is not static: Terminal 1 is being wound down as its airlines move into the enlarged Terminal 2 under the airport’s long-running transformation programme.
That matters on the ground because an airline you flew with last year may be in a different building this year. We take the terminal from the live arrivals feed on the day rather than from an itinerary or from memory, and the car parks accordingly. Everything after that is straightforward: a covered walk, a level route to the vehicle, and the M56 a couple of minutes away.

Drive times are indicative ranges rather than promises. The same run behaves differently at seven in the morning and seven in the evening.

03/Terminals
The terminals, and where we stand in each
Knowing the building is most of the job. Each of these has its own approach, its own car park and its own place to stand.
01
Terminal 2
The enlarged terminal at the centre of the transformation programme, and increasingly the main building. Arrivals come through into the hall on the lower level; your chauffeur stands in front of those doors with a name board.
02
Terminal 3
Connected to the rest of the site by the covered Skylink walkway. The arrivals hall is compact enough that a name board is visible as soon as you come through, and the car park is a short level walk.
03
Terminal 1
Being wound down as its airlines move into the enlarged Terminal 2. Some flights still use it, so we confirm the building from the day’s arrivals feed rather than assuming either way.
04
The Skylink and the transport interchange
A covered walkway links the terminals with the railway station and the ground transport interchange. Useful context, though a chauffeured arrival walks to a car park rather than along it.

How a Manchester collection runs
Four steps, in the order they happen. Most of them are finished before you are on the ground.
Step 01
Terminal read from the live feed
With Terminal 1 winding down and airlines moving into Terminal 2, the building is confirmed on the day. It takes a chauffeur thirty seconds and saves a passenger fifteen minutes.
Step 02
Car parked at that terminal
Manchester’s short stays are terminal-specific and the internal roads are one-way. Being in the right car park before you land is not a nicety, it is the whole job.
Step 03
Met inside arrivals with a board
The chauffeur waits in the hall facing the doors from reclaim. You will have had the name and mobile number the day before, though you should not need to use either.
Step 04
Onto the M56 within minutes
The airport sits on its own spur off junction 5. Loading takes a moment and the run north into the city or south into Cheshire begins straight away.
LF-01/A terminal picture that is still moving
A terminal picture that is still moving
Most British airports have a terminal layout that has not changed in a decade. Manchester does not. The transformation programme has enlarged Terminal 2 considerably and airlines have been moving across into it, with Terminal 1 winding down as they go.
For a passenger the consequence is small but annoying: the building you used last time may not be the building you use now. For us it means one extra check on the morning of the collection, which is why we never take the terminal from a booking confirmation printed weeks earlier.
LF-02/Ringway, the M56 and getting into the city
Ringway, the M56 and getting into the city
The airport sits at Ringway with its own spur off junction 5 of the M56, which is a genuinely good road. Into the city it is the M56 then the Mancunian Way or Princess Parkway, and the whole thing is twenty-five minutes when it behaves.
The times it does not behave are predictable: weekday mornings inbound, Friday afternoons outbound, and any evening when there is something on at Old Trafford or the arena. We quote against the day rather than an average.
LF-03/Cheshire, and why so many arrivals go south
Cheshire, and why so many arrivals go south
A large share of Manchester arrivals never see the city. Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, Knutsford, Prestbury and the villages around them are ten to twenty-five minutes from the terminal on roads that mostly move, which makes the airport unusually convenient for that corner of the country.
Those runs are quoted as fixed journeys with the address confirmed. A lane in Cheshire at eleven at night is not a place to be working out house names from the back seat.
05/The cars
What we send to Manchester
Cases decide this more often than passengers do. Four adults fit in a saloon; four adults with four large cases do not.
No standing price list. Send the journey on WhatsApp and the written quotation confirms the price, what it includes and any applicable tax.
LF-04/The northern long-haul arrival
The northern long-haul arrival
Manchester carries a serious long-haul programme, and the morning arrivals bank lands a lot of tired people into one set of reclaim belts at the same hour. Twenty minutes from aircraft door to kerb is optimistic on those flights; an hour is ordinary.
Waiting is therefore built into the fare rather than added afterwards. The chauffeur stays in the hall, the clock runs from the actual landing, and a slow border queue is not converted into a surcharge.
LF-05/Business travel between Manchester and the London airports
Business travel between Manchester and the London airports
Plenty of our Manchester work is not an airport transfer at all but a long-distance run: Manchester to London by road, or a connection between Manchester Airport and Heathrow when a schedule collapses. Two hundred miles is a long drive and a manageable one in the right car.
For those journeys the vehicle matters more than usual. A rear cabin you can work or sleep in for four hours is a different proposition from one you can tolerate for forty minutes, and we will say which of ours we would put you in.
06/What it costs
How a transfer fare is put together
A transfer is quoted as one fixed fare for the run rather than by the hour, and the quotation names everything that fare covers before you accept it.
01
The run itself
Both ends of the journey and the route as we intend to drive it, quoted as a single movement.
02
The cabin you choose
Seats and cases decide the car, and the car is the largest single lever on the figure.
03
The waiting allowance
Stated on the quotation, and larger on an arrival than on a hotel collection because a landing time moves.
04
Where the car starts
A car positioned for a dawn collection carries mileage nobody is sitting in, and the quotation says so.
No standing price list. Send the journey on WhatsApp and the written quotation confirms the price, what it includes and any applicable tax. The pricing page sets out what moves a quotation, and one message on WhatsApp fixes the figure for your exact journey.
Manchester sees a great deal of group traffic: sports teams, touring crews, corporate parties, families travelling together. The failure mode is always the same, which is luggage volume rather than passenger count.
Eight people fit in a Sprinter easily. Eight people with eight cases and equipment need the luggage counted at the booking stage. We ask the dull question about bag numbers because it is the one that prevents the expensive problem.
LF-07/The Peak District, the Lakes and the long way home
The Peak District, the Lakes and the long way home
Manchester is the practical airport for a surprising amount of northern England. The Peak District is under an hour, the Yorkshire Dales and the Lakes are two to three, and all of it is more pleasant by car than by any combination of trains.
Long runs out of Manchester are quoted as single journeys with one chauffeur throughout. There is no handover at a service station, and the person who takes your bags at the terminal is the person who carries them into the house.
07/Coverage
Where we drive to and from Manchester
The places this airport serves most often. Every one of them has a page of its own with local detail on it.
Not on the list? We drive the whole of the United Kingdom. The full coverage index runs from central London out to the Highlands.
08/Other terminals
Airports near this one
Connections between these are ordinary bookings for us, quoted against the real gap between two flights rather than the one a booking engine considers legal.
Manchester’s security queues have a rhythm, and the worst of it clusters around the early morning departure bank. A flight at seven means being at the terminal considerably earlier than the airline’s stated minimum if you would like the morning to be pleasant.
Our pick-up times are built backwards from the check-in deadline with that in mind. If the time you have asked for looks tight against the hour you are flying, we will say so when we quote rather than agree and hope.

The services this sits inside
An airport transfer is rarely the whole booking. These are the pages that cover what usually surrounds it.
Six things people ask before booking a car to this airport, answered plainly.
How many terminals does Manchester Airport have?
+
Three: Terminals 1, 2 and 3. Terminal 1 is being wound down as its airlines move into the enlarged Terminal 2 under the airport transformation programme, so we confirm your building from the live arrivals feed on the day rather than from an older itinerary.
Where will my chauffeur meet me at Manchester?
+
Inside the arrivals hall of your terminal, facing the doors from baggage reclaim, holding a name board. The car is already parked in that terminal’s short stay, so the walk out is level and covered.
How long is the drive from Manchester Airport into the city centre?
+
Indicatively twenty-five to forty-five minutes for about ten miles, via the M56 spur and then the Mancunian Way or Princess Parkway. Weekday mornings and event nights at the arena or Old Trafford push it towards the upper end.
Do you cover Cheshire from Manchester Airport?
+
Constantly. Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, Knutsford, Prestbury and the surrounding villages are ten to twenty-five minutes away, and those runs are quoted as fixed journeys with the address confirmed before the day.
Can you drive from Manchester Airport to Heathrow?
+
Yes, and we do it when a connection falls apart or a schedule changes. It is around two hundred miles, so the vehicle choice matters: a car you can work or sleep in for four hours is a different thing from one you can put up with for forty minutes.
What if my Manchester flight lands early?
+
The chauffeur tracks the inbound and parks to match it, so an early landing is met early rather than waited out. The same tracking is what absorbs a delay in the other direction without any charge for the airline’s lost time.
Send us the flight number. We will send the Manchester fare in writing.
Message us the date, the pick-up and where you are going. You will get a fixed written quotation with the vehicle, the chauffeur’s arrival time and what the figure includes — no form to fill in, and no estimate that moves later.
