Chauffeur coverage across the London Borough of Redbridge, Ilford to Hainault

The A12 runs straight through the middle of Redbridge and the M11 begins at its northern corner. Few boroughs leave London this easily.

Chauffeur service in Redbridge — summary

Chauffeur hire in Redbridge, England, for people whose journey already has a premium cabin in the middle of it and who have noticed that the ground half is the part that goes wrong. The car takes you from your Redbridge door to the terminal at Stansted, an indicative 35-60 minutes and about 27 miles, and it is standing in arrivals when you come back. Between flights it works by the hour around Fairlop Waters, Ilford High Road and Wanstead Park. Pick-ups are made from private addresses in the IG1 district, from Redbridge Town Hall, and from the rank side of Barkingside. Nothing is published as a price list; the figure is confirmed on a written quotation for Redbridge.

Chauffeur service in Redbridge

Redbridge covers Ilford, Seven Kings, Goodmayes, Gants Hill, Newbury Park, Barkingside, Hainault, Clayhall, Aldborough Hatch, Wanstead, Woodford, South Woodford and Woodford Green. Redbridge Town Hall stands on the High Road in Ilford, which is the borough’s commercial centre and, on a Saturday afternoon, by some distance its busiest street as well.

We cover the whole borough, and its geography is unusually helpful. Eastern Avenue crosses it east to west, the North Circular meets the A12 at the Redbridge roundabout, and the M11 starts at Woodford. Stansted, Cambridge and the whole of Essex are straightforward from any Redbridge address.

03The area

How Redbridge behaves around a car

The bits of Redbridge that matter when you are the one parking.

Ilford High Road is dense, pedestrianised in the middle and ringed by a busy one-way system. Gants Hill is a large roundabout with the Eastern Avenue running through it and an Underground station beneath. North of the A12 the borough becomes markedly greener, with Wanstead Flats, Wanstead Park and Hainault Forest, and Woodford and Wanstead are comfortable suburbs of wide roads and driveways. Hainault at the far north-east edges onto open country.

04Demand

Why a car gets booked in Redbridge

Who we collect from Redbridge Town Hall and the streets around it.

Stansted takes most of the airport traffic, with Southend a genuine second option and London City an easy short run. King George Hospital at Goodmayes generates medical journeys. There is a substantial family travel trade across the borough, often large groups with heavy luggage on long-haul departures, and a good deal of wedding and event work given the number of venues in the area.

05Road time

Getting the departure time right in Redbridge

Departure planning for Redbridge, without the optimism.

The A12 is the borough clock and it queues towards London from before seven and outbound from half three, with the Redbridge roundabout and the Gants Hill junction the worst points. The M11 at Charlie Brown’s roundabout is slow in both peaks. Ilford High Road is congested through Saturday. Early mornings are excellent and the run to Stansted before seven is often under forty minutes.

06The kerb

Kerb space in Redbridge

What happens when there is no legal kerb outside your door in Redbridge.

Ilford town centre has a pedestrianised core and controlled parking around it, so collections happen on the side streets. Gants Hill has no waiting anywhere near the roundabout. Woodford, Wanstead and Barkingside are suburban with driveways and are straightforward. King George Hospital has a proper set-down. On the A12 and the North Circular there is no stopping at all, and the service roads are the alternative.

Collection notes for Redbridge

  • 01Ilford town centre is pedestrianised in the middle. Collections are from the side streets off the ring, not from the High Road.
  • 02Nothing waits at Gants Hill; the roundabout carries the Eastern Avenue and there is no kerb space at any arm.
  • 03For the M11 we join at Woodford, which puts a Stansted or Cambridge journey on fast road within minutes.
  • 04Woodford, Wanstead and Barkingside addresses generally have drives and the chauffeur loads at the door.

07Included as standard

Every Redbridge booking, as standard

  • 01

Stansted to Redbridge, door to door

The Stansted car park is paid before you land, so the walk out towards Redbridge is uninterrupted. Cases onto the trolley, trolley to the boot, then an indicative 35-60 minutes back to Redbridge. Nobody asks you to find a lift at Stansted or remember which level the car back to Redbridge is on.

  • 02

The aircraft, not the timetable, into Stansted

Early landings at Stansted get the same attention as late ones, and the car leaves Redbridge sooner. If Stansted clears you forty minutes ahead of schedule the car is already parked, the board is already up, and the drive to Redbridge simply starts sooner.

  • 03

    Practised at the Redbridge handover

Chauffeurs are briefed before they set off: the address in Redbridge, the entrance, the flight, and anything you have told us about the door you will come out of. None of it is discovered on the Redbridge pavement.

  • 04

One price for the whole Redbridge journey

Traffic risk on Cranbrook Road sits with us. A bad morning on Cranbrook Road makes the journey longer and the price identical, which is most of the practical difference between a chauffeur and a metered car.

  • 05

What goes in the boot before Cranbrook Road

We ask about luggage because it decides which car reaches Redbridge. Two cabin bags to Stansted is a different booking from a family relocating with eight cases, and both are ordinary work in Redbridge.

  • 06

Waiting, drop-offs and stops in Redbridge

An hourly booking holds the car for the whole period, so the boot becomes somewhere to leave a coat and a bag while you walk into Redbridge Town Hall carrying nothing.

08Terminals

Indicative drives from Redbridge to each terminal

These are timed from a Redbridge door to the terminal, because that is the number you can plan against. The walk to the car in Redbridge, the queue at the Stansted drop-off and the walk to the desk all sit outside it. The written quotation for Redbridge puts them back in.

The first mile out of Redbridge

LF-01The first mile out of Redbridge

The first mile out of Redbridge

The chauffeur reaches Redbridge with time in hand and parks. Nothing about the first ten minutes should involve you: no circling, no hazard lights outside Redbridge Town Hall, no phone call asking which end of the street you are on.

If you have forgotten something the car turns round in Redbridge. That costs a few minutes at the Redbridge end and nothing at all next to discovering it at the Stansted check-in desk.

  • Pick-ups at Barkingside made on the side that tolerates a stationary car
  • Collections from Redbridge Town Hall arranged through the desk, not the forecourt
  • The car holds on M11 at Woodford when the kerb outside your door will not take it
  • Cases carried from the door in Redbridge rather than watched
Met, not telephoned, at Stansted

LF-02Met, not telephoned, at Stansted

Met, not telephoned, at Stansted

Everything that makes an arrival at Stansted work happens while the car is still in Redbridge. The Stansted car park is chosen, the parking is paid, and the walk to the barrier is timed against the actual touchdown rather than the time printed on your Redbridge confirmation.

For late arrivals the practical question is whether anyone in Redbridge is still awake at the other end. The chauffeur will carry the bags to the door in Redbridge rather than leaving them on the pavement, which at one in the morning matters more than it sounds.

  • Stansted car park found and paid for before the Redbridge chauffeur walks in
  • Indicative 35-60 minutes back into Redbridge
  • Waiting from touchdown at Stansted built into the Redbridge transfer
  • Bags taken from the Stansted trolley to the boot and on to Redbridge

We treat a train into Barkingside the way we treat a flight. Twenty minutes lost somewhere before Barkingside moves the chauffeur's start time in Redbridge and changes nothing else about your booking.

Rail travellers into Barkingside usually have less luggage and less patience. Both make the last mile out of Barkingside a short, unremarkable drive rather than an operation, which is how it ought to read.

Getting out of Redbridge cleanly depends on Cranbrook Road. On a good morning the car is past Cranbrook Road in minutes; on a bad one it is the whole problem, and the chauffeur will have chosen the alternative before you get in.

The car stops at the Stansted terminal your airline actually uses, not the one nearest Cranbrook Road. Cases out, trolley found, and the chauffeur stays until you have everything before turning back towards Redbridge.

Four classes for Redbridge work

Four classes for Redbridge work

The SUV classes exist for weather, gravel and drives a good deal longer than the 27 miles out of Redbridge. Around Redbridge that is a smaller share of the work than the brochures imply, and we will say so rather than steering you into one.

Every car sent to Redbridge is a private hire vehicle driven by a licensed chauffeur. Nothing on this page claims how many there are or how old they are, because availability for a Redbridge date is confirmed on the quotation and not on a web page.

The day the Redbridge diary decides

LF-06The day the Redbridge diary decides

The day the Redbridge diary decides

The point of holding the car in Redbridge is that nothing has to be decided in advance. You can leave Redbridge Town Hall half an hour early or an hour late, and the only consequence is where the clock stops.

The chauffeur stays the same all day, which by the afternoon means they know which entrance at King George Hospital is quickest and where near the Redbridge roundabout you would rather be dropped.

How a Redbridge quotation is put together

LF-07How a Redbridge quotation is put together

How a Redbridge quotation is put together

A Redbridge quotation is not a negotiation. The same journey is quoted the same way whoever is asking, and the written figure for your own run out of Redbridge to Stansted settles it.

Changes to a Redbridge booking are normal. Flights move, meetings overrun, and a collection in Redbridge that was booked for nine becomes eleven. Tell us and we requote the Redbridge journey in writing if the price changes at all.

17Answers

Redbridge chauffeur questions

If your Redbridge question is not here, the Stansted pages and the pricing page usually have it.

How quickly can you reach Stansted from Redbridge?

Around twenty-seven miles, usually thirty-five minutes to an hour. The M11 starts at Woodford at the north of the borough, so the fast part of the journey begins almost immediately. Before seven in the morning it is often at the shorter end, and we still build a margin into the departure.

Is Gants Hill a difficult place to be collected from?

The roundabout itself is, because Eastern Avenue runs through it and no arm has usable kerb space. We collect from one of the residential turnings off Cranbrook Road or Woodford Avenue instead. It is a two-minute walk from the station and the handover is calm rather than hurried.

Do you cover the northern edge of the borough at Hainault?

Yes, including Hainault Forest, Fairlop and the roads towards the Essex boundary. They are quieter than the rest of the borough and easy to work in, though the lanes at the far edge are unlit. For an early departure we allow a few extra minutes rather than assuming an empty road is a fast one.

Which Redbridge districts have their own pages?

Ilford, Wanstead, Woodford, South Woodford, Gants Hill, Goodmayes, Seven Kings and Chadwell Heath all have separate entries. This page covers the borough as a whole, including Barkingside, Newbury Park, Hainault, Clayhall, Aldborough Hatch and Woodford Green.
