01The short answer

Booked hourly for the evening rather than as two transfers, with anything you want in the car arranged before it arrives. Where the occasion is a surprise, nothing carrying a price or a confirmation reaches the passenger, and the chauffeur is briefed accordingly.

The reason for the hours rather than transfers is simple: nobody wants to leave a good dinner because a car was booked for ten. Holding the vehicle removes the only part of an evening that runs to somebody else's clock.

What can be arranged in the car

QA-01What can be arranged in the car

What can be arranged in the car

Flowers on the seat, a bottle for the journey home, a specific track queued and ready as the doors close. All of it is straightforward with notice and impossible on the day, since a chauffeur cannot stop at a shop between two collections.

Send the detail when you book. A track title, a florist to collect from, or a card to be left on the seat all take a moment to arrange in advance and cannot be improvised at seven on a Saturday evening.

  • Hourly hire so the evening is not on a clock
  • Flowers, a bottle or a card arranged before the car arrives
  • A specific track ready rather than searched for
  • Nothing with a price on it reaching a surprise passenger
  • A collection point agreed where a restaurant has no kerb

QA-02Keeping a surprise intact

Keeping a surprise intact

The confirmation goes to whoever booked. The passenger receives only what they need on the night, which is often nothing at all: they walk out of a door and a car is there.

Tell us how much the chauffeur should say. Some people want the occasion acknowledged with a word; others want nothing mentioned. Both are easy when they are on the booking and awkward when they are not.

QA-03Choosing the car

Choosing the car

For a dinner, an S-Class or a BMW i7 does the job beautifully and does not turn the evening into a spectacle. For a milestone where the car is part of the point, the Ghost or the Phantom change the arrival entirely, at several times the money.

The Phantom, Cullinan and Sprinter carry a six hour minimum, so a short evening in one of those is six hours regardless. That is worth knowing before choosing, since it often makes the decision by itself.

QA-04The practical bit nobody thinks about

The practical bit nobody thinks about

Where the car will actually wait. Restaurants in central London rarely have anywhere a vehicle can sit, so the collection point is agreed in advance and confirmed to you rather than worked out on the pavement afterwards.

On a busy Saturday that single detail is the difference between a car appearing within two minutes of a message and a quarter of an hour standing outside in a coat you did not bring.

04Answers

Follow-up questions

The things people ask straight after this one.

Can you keep the booking a secret from the passenger?

Yes, and people ask for it often. All correspondence goes to the booker, nothing with a figure on it is sent to the passenger, and the chauffeur is briefed on what to say and what not to. They simply find a car waiting.

How many hours should I book for a dinner?

Four is the minimum block on most vehicles and covers a drink and a dinner comfortably. Five or six is more realistic if the evening starts somewhere else first, and unused hours are always easier than running out.

Can champagne be waiting in the car?

With notice, yes. It is arranged before the car leaves rather than collected en route, and anything with a genuine cost behind it is quoted so you see it in advance rather than finding it on an invoice.
