01/The short answer
London City is the closest by road, with Heathrow second. In practice the answer depends on the hour: City is nearer in miles but the drive crosses the whole of central London, and in the weekday peak that can take as long as the run west to Heathrow.
Mayfair is one of the few places in London where all six airports are genuinely usable, which makes the choice about flight schedules rather than geography most of the time. The ground difference between them is smaller than people assume.
QA-01/The order, and the caveats
The order, and the caveats
London City first, Heathrow second, then Luton, Gatwick and Stansted in a cluster that reorders itself depending on the traffic and the direction. Southend is furthest and rarely relevant from the West End.
Heathrow's advantage from Mayfair is direction. Park Lane onto the A4 or the M4 is a single westward run with no river crossing and no cutting through the City, which is why it feels shorter than the mileage suggests at busy hours.
London City: closest in miles, across the middle of town
Heathrow: a straight westward run, usually 45 to 90 minutes
Luton: north up the M1, around an hour off-peak
Gatwick: south, an hour and a quarter or more
Stansted: north-east, similar to Gatwick in time
QA-02/What actually decides it
What actually decides it
The flight. Most long-haul from London leaves Heathrow, most short-haul business flies City, and the low-cost carriers dominate Luton, Stansted and Gatwick. The airport is usually chosen by the airline before geography gets a vote.
Where you genuinely have a choice, City wins on total journey time for European business trips because the terminal side is so quick. Heathrow wins when the drive is in the peak, or when you are carrying luggage that makes the landside experience matter.
QA-03/Collections in Mayfair itself
Collections in Mayfair itself
The streets are narrow and much of the area is controlled, so a good chauffeur names a specific spot rather than telling you to come outside. Outside a hotel entrance, on a particular corner, or on the side street where a car can legally wait for three minutes.
For an early departure the car is in position before you come down. That is worth arranging deliberately in Mayfair, because there is nowhere obvious to stand and wait, and circling is the alternative nobody wants.
QA-04/What a Mayfair airport run costs
What a Mayfair airport run costs
Mayfair sits squarely inside the central London band, so a run to Heathrow or Gatwick is quoted as a standard fixed fare for that airport and cabin, in either direction. Gatwick sits above Heathrow because it is the longer drive.
City, Luton and Stansted are quoted against the route rather than from the card. Send the postcode and the flight number and a fixed figure comes back, with the congestion charge and any car park fee shown separately at cost.
Is London City always faster from Mayfair than Heathrow?
+
Not reliably. Off-peak it usually is, since the distance is shorter. In the weekday morning and evening peaks the cross-town drive can be slower than the westward run to Heathrow, and the direction of travel matters as much as the mileage.
Which airport is best for a same-day return to Europe?
+
City, if the route exists. The terminal is small enough that you can arrive close to departure and clear quickly at the far end, which is what makes a genuine day trip possible rather than theoretical.
Where should a Mayfair hotel guest be collected from?
+
The hotel entrance where the road allows it, or a named spot a few yards away where it does not. Tell us the hotel at the booking stage and the chauffeur arrives knowing which of those applies rather than working it out on arrival.
Tell us the journey. We will send the price in writing.
Message us the date, the pick-up and where you are going. You will get a fixed written quotation with the vehicle, the chauffeur’s arrival time and what the figure includes — no form to fill in, and no estimate that moves later.
