Can a chauffeur collect something without me in the car?

Yes. Documents, luggage, a delayed suitcase from an airport, or a person you are not travelling with can all be collected. It is booked as an ordinary transfer with a named contact at each end, so the handover is to a specific person rather than to an address.

01The short answer

Yes. Documents, luggage, a delayed suitcase from an airport, or a person you are not travelling with can all be collected. It is booked as an ordinary transfer with a named contact at each end, so the handover is to a specific person rather than to an address.

The thing that makes it work is the naming. A car sent to fetch something with no contact at the far end is a car parked outside a building while somebody rings a switchboard, which is a poor use of everybody's afternoon.

What gets collected, in practice

QA-01What gets collected, in practice

What gets collected, in practice

Delayed luggage from an airport is the most common, followed by documents that have to be somewhere by a particular hour and a bag left in a hotel. None of it is glamorous and all of it is solvable with one booking.

Passengers are the other half. A relative collected from a station, a colleague brought from an office, a child taken from a school to a family address: all are ordinary transfers where the booker is not in the car.

  • Named contact and mobile number at both ends
  • Confirmation to the booker when the collection is made
  • Delayed airport luggage, with the airline reference
  • Documents and packages, hand to hand rather than left
  • Passengers travelling without the person who booked

QA-02How it is confirmed

How it is confirmed

A message to you when the item or the passenger is collected, and another on delivery. That is usually all anybody actually wants, and it is more useful than a tracking link that shows a car sitting at a set of lights in Hammersmith.

For anything sensitive, the handover is to a named person who is expecting it rather than to a reception desk. Say who that is when you book, with a mobile number, and the chauffeur will not hand it to anybody else.

QA-03Collecting a passenger on your behalf

Collecting a passenger on your behalf

The passenger gets the chauffeur's name, the vehicle description and where the car will be. They do not get a price, an invoice or a request for payment, and nothing with a figure on it reaches them unless you ask for it to.

Where the passenger is elderly, unwell or unfamiliar with the arrangement, tell us. The chauffeur will go to the door rather than waiting at a kerb, and the collection is confirmed to you rather than left as an assumption.

QA-04What it costs and what it is not

What it costs and what it is not

It is priced as a transfer from the same card, against the route. A collection and delivery across London is one journey with two ends, and the figure is fixed before the car moves.

It is not a courier service, and it does not compete with one on price for a small package. What it does is move something that matters with a named person responsible for it at every point, which is a different product entirely.

Follow-up questions

The things people ask straight after this one.

Will I be told when the collection has been made?

Yes, directly, and again on delivery. That is the confirmation most people want, and it is more useful than watching a vehicle move on a map. For a time-critical item, the chauffeur will also confirm the name of whoever received it.

Can you collect a delayed bag from an airport?

Yes, with the airline reference and the terminal. Most airlines will deliver a delayed bag themselves, so it is worth asking them first. Where their timing does not work, a chauffeur collection is a straightforward transfer booking.

Is this cheaper than a courier?

For a small package, no, and we will say so. What a chauffeur booking offers is a named person carrying it, a car that goes directly rather than via a depot, and a handover to somebody specific. For documents that matter, that is what people are buying.
